The operating system can be decrypted using a TPM 2.0 chip integrated in the mainboard and a recovery key stored in the TPM 2.0 chip (using the TPM 2.0 API). The password can contain up to 255 characters and use a standard password encoding (PKCS#5 v1.5 with SHA-1, RSA with 2048 bits) for user authentication. The user is prompted when it is time to unlock the hard drive. Files are encrypted on the hard drive and stored on an encrypted volume. Office for Mac 2011 for Mac OS X Lion and Office 2013 for Mac OS X Mountain Lion support the FileVault 2 disk encryption feature that encrypts the entire disk, including the operating system, documents, pictures, and videos, and provides an authentication method to prove that the system is in its original state.
